A Hawaiian Tahuna walked with the Gods in his Valley

Iota'e Valley - Iolekaa, Kaneohe, Oahu

A person's perspective of history depends on where he stands on their mountain of time.  All people climb the same mountain; however there are many trails and pali (cliffs), and each vantage point has its own vista of the past and present you can only see from where you stand and as you move along, the scene is ever changing, but the best view is from the summit of the mountain.  Few people ever get there and that is the reason so many histories about traditional Hawaiian cultural beliefs, the po'e and the Tahuna are misrepresented.  From this mountain of this summit a Hawaiian Tahuna kane stands and he view is seeing through the eyes of the ancestors to tell the true story of the Po'o Kahuna of the God Lono, and the true Hawaiian beliefs and not by a foreigner.  To change the true history of our traditional Hawaiian culture and beliefs, our God's, our Aumatua are saddened of all the years when the first darkness came in the 1100's and again when the Tapu system and the Gods, Aumatua, and old ways were destroyed in 1820.  Once again our Kings, our Tupunas, our po'e, and the Hawaiian Kahuna knew the Huna Mana and some of the invaders came and took some of the sacred mana away from us and hid the truth, and kept it for only themselves and banned our beliefs, culture and language back in 1819.  They knew how to change the true history of our Hawaiian way, like they did to other cultures throughtout the world.

It is time "The Sleeper Has Awakened".

Now the true story of the Hawaiian Tahuna of the God Lono begins, in this valley from the mauka to makai, here resides the Kea Kea Lono Ohana of the lineage of Chief Paki. The Ohana origins are traceable to Tahiti and Rapa Nui.  These ancestors who came to the Hawaiian Islands originally populated on the Island of Kauai, then to Kawaihae on the Big Island of Hawaii, and the land here in Kaneohe is the last of three parcels on Oahu that held since the Great Mahele of 1848, the land division made under the old kingdom of Hawaii.

In the year of Mach 17, 1918 Samuela Hoopii Lono was born in the valley of Iota'e - Iolekaa, Kaneohe, Oahu. His great-great grandfather, Kea Kea was the first person to train him in the beautiful way of the Kahuna wisdom. From the moment of his birth, it was immediately apparent that this baby was born with the ike, a gift.  Unlike other infants, he did not cry and was unusually aware of people and his surroundings.  When his great-great grandfather Kea Kea took him into his arms, baby Lono would get excited as he felt the mana being flowed into him. Other babies are pacified with lullabies, but baby Lono was lulled to sleep with the unearthly chants of the Ancient One's, which were whispered in his ear, night after night.  Because he was a TAPU child, Tahuna Lono's feet were not permitted to touch the ground until he was sixteen tears old.  His grandparents always carried him until he asked them to lift the TAPU that forbade him from walking on the ground.  Special rituals and chants were performed and he was finally able to walk the land.  Later in his life, he was working on his property, and by accident he stepped on a thorn from a bougainvillea plant. What happened next was amazing.  His feet became violently infected and this harsh reaction was a reminder to him that even though the TAPU against his feet touching the ground was lifted, he still had to be cautious. Other matters of ritual purification were rigidly enforced as he was growing up.

His parents were skilled Lavai'a (fisherman), and from them he learned about the ocean and the ways of the old ones.  His father taught him about the Tu Ula, the Heiau for the fish gods Tu and Hina.  He learn how to pray to the Aumatua of the sea. While in the Valley of IO Ta'e, he was trained by his grandfather at the following Heiau: Lele a Hina, Lono O Ka Makahiki, Heiau Lapa'au, from approximately 1925 to 1945.  Then he was taken to Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii to begin the formal phase of his training.  His grandfather Mahea O Kalani Lono O Matahiti initiated him into secrets and mysteries of the Tahuna.  From about 1945 to 1965 he received additional training from his grandfather Mahea O Kalani Lono O Ka Makahiti on the Heiau in the North and South Kona and Kohala area of the Big Island.

Po'o Tahuna Sam H. Lono was trained in the traditional indigenous Ho`omana (Hawaiian Religion ).  It was not practiced openly since it was banned in 1819, his genealogy is of the God Lono ( RONO ), the God of agriculture in the Ho`omana.  He was trained as a teacher,  a healer, a High Priest, Pari Tu.  Of all the training from the ancient ones, one night he went up to the Heiau of Huna Mana, the Ancient Ones gave him the blessing and ritual, and the title of the highest priesthood of the Kahuna of the descendants of the god Lono.  This level is above the Po'o Tahuna (Tahuna Nui O Pari Tu Po Paki O Ta Matahiti O Lono) this title was not given by man but by the Gods themselves.

                                                        Ke Ao Loko o Lono

( The Innermost Knowledge of Lono )

Tahuna Lono, the time has come to share with the po'e of Hawai'i and his is the first to come out since the ban in 1819. Our need to know the true Hawaiian belief of the highest God(s) and understanding the knowledge of the Staff of Life.  Pa Halau O Te Atua, Maiola (healing light, the wisdom and knowledge of the Heiau).  Aumatua (Huna Mana - Ancestral worship, the source of the knowledge) as the root and bones of Hawaiian spiritualism based on the Pu'uhonua. The time has come to share our mana'o.

The foundation of pre - contact traditional Hawaiian belief as passed down orally from Mahea O Kalani Lono O Ka Makahiti and Tahuna Nui Pail Tu Sam H. O Kalani Lono O Po Paki is Pa Halau O Te Atua (The foundation of the Four Gods - Tu, Taneloa, Lono, Tane).  As we reverence earth, air, fire, and water may we each know and be Kumulipo.  Receive and wisely use the Huna Mana and together enjoy the reign of Mu.

        "TAPU" The Heiau of Lono

All of these elements and Aumatua, however, are the expressions of IO.  One god governs the world and mana - power so that the four elements fill nature and man with life.

Practice:

Tahuna Nui Pari Tu Po Paki O Ta Matahiti Sam H. Lono has taught classes on the Hawaiian culture and hoomana (religion) on his ahupua'a from 1965 to 1979.  1973 is when he lost some of his eye sight and mobility.  He has lectured at the University of Hawaii, Community Colleges, and several High Schools and Intermediate Schools throughout the state. Several articles have been written on his teaching and his work in healing with Laau Lapaau, Laau Kahea, Maiola, and Ho'oponopono (Tahuna Lapaau).  Tahuna Lono has practiced healing on scores of people with remarkable results in his community, Hawaii nei and throughout the world.

Tahuna Lono, of the Traditional Indigenous Hoomana (Hawaiian Religion), due in part to the willingness of the United States government to now recognize traditional religious practices of Native American peoples.  Tahuna Lono has chosen 1980 to reestablish the traditional Hoomana, but more importantly he has been guided by the will of the gods to act now to reestablish the working relationship between the indigenous Hawaiian people and their Gods.

In 1974 Tahuna Lono and His Haumana (students) in the valley Io ta'e, Iolekaa is dedicated to promoting a greater practice and understanding of the Traditional Indigenous Hoomana and Traditional Hawaiian thinking and helped many with healing in the traditional ways.

Some of the significant events in the Temple's history are:

  • Opening of the Lapaau school in 1971 - Energy Healing, Maiola, Hooponopono, Laau Lapaau, and Pohaku Ola

  • Opening of the Heiau of Ku and Hina at Hakioawa, Kahoolawe

  • Establishment of the Heiau as a non - profit organization in 1978

  • Rededication of the Heiau of Ku and Hina at Mo'okapu, Oahu situated in the Ahupua'a of Lono in the district of Koolaupoko. 1980 Access to and rededication of Pu'uhounua Lehua at Kualoa 1981

  • The maintenance of and access to the sacred Heiau of Hawaii nei

Hoomana (Hawaiian religion) and thought from the perspective of a traditionalist is an understanding of the Pu'uhonua, Pa Halua Otea Atua, Maiola, Aumatua, Staff of Life,Hawaiian thinking, and the individual in relation to the gods, because the knowledge of the traditional religion was a day - to - day part of life.  It is essential to the understanding of traditional Hawaiian thinking.  Hawaiians have been denied their religion and understanding of their traditional culture for decades upon decades. They have suffered the rewriting of their history, the loss of their land, the genocide of their people, and the destruction of their cultural roots. Their spirit cries out for an answer too many questions.

Tahuna Lono wants to keep this alive, their knowledge, the teaching of the Lono order, and now wish to share their understanding of traditional Hawaiian Hoomana and culture with the po'e of Hawaii as was once said by one of our Mo'i ( King's ) upon the publication of his Kumulipo - that this Kumulipo is not a contribution to the Hawaiian po'e, but a contribution to humanity.  Lono's great great grandfather Mahea O Kalani Lono O Makahiti, who composed the Kumulipo

Notice: The Lono Order, in order to receive this title of Tahuna or Tahuna Nui O Pari Tu Po Paki O Ta Matahiti O Lono, is by birth, by the Lono order, and from Lono himself, before his passing he said, " I'm the last of the descendant of the God Lono, but when I go another will rise to continue the Lono Legacy, born of this land, and he must pass the Lono ritual by the ancient ones of Mu, ancestor of Hawaii nei, by the Aumatuas, and ONLY A MALE  can receive this title of the Lono Order, what is SACRED to the Lono Order must stay SACRED, because some people have already misused that Code of Order!"can receive this

Tahuna Nui O Pari Tu Po Paki O Ta Matahiti O Lono passed on December 27, 1985 in his valley of the " Heiau of the Gods"

The Ka Leo O Na Tahuna Lapa'au Hale O Lono O Hawaii has been re-oganized by someone else. We do not have any part  of  that organiztion , or working with them. DO NOT be misled by that name. We are now called,

" Na Tahuna Ikaika Lapaau O Hawaii "

Heiau O Lono

Tahuna Ikaika continues the next level of the sacred rituals of the Huna Mana of the ancient ones of Mu.

Tahuna Nui O Pari Tu Po Paki O Lono Ikaika Dombrigues: Follows in the same footsteps, as his teacher Kahuna Lono in all the years of of his work, spiritual training on the Heiau and the scared ritual on Heiau, receiving the wisdom and knowledge. He acknowledges that he could not have done it, with the Aloha and of all of his teachers, Io, The Gods and the ancient ancestors.

Even today, they continue to protect, guide him on their spiritual wings of Io Lani. Tahuna Ikaika does all of his work in honor of them and has steadfast in not changeing the Lono order of the ancient ones of Mu.
